José Bové: ‘Four or five companies are deciding what we eat’
By Christophe Robeet, 2015-04-20, France24
Christophe Robeet speaks to José Bové. A sheep farmer-turned-MEP, Bové rose to global fame 15 years ago after he demolished a half-built McDonalds in the French town of Millau. The action was the culmination of a lifetime of protest against what he calls the evil of globalisation and junk food.
It’s a theme he addresses in his latest book, “L’alimentation en otage”, which translates as “Food held hostage”. Bové explains that “it’s more and more difficult to choose your own food directly”. This is because “four or five companies are completely deciding what we’re going to eat and what the farmers are going to grow”. In other words: what applies to food also applies to genetically modified seeds.
