Zimbabwe facing most intense unrest in almost a decade

Zimbabwe is in the midst of intense unrest as protests have broken out against president Robert Mugabe in recent weeks. Zimbabwean police have responded with tear gas, water cannon and sometimes violence, prompting many to flee the country following the security crackdown. Protesters, angry about the state of the economy and widespread shortages of food, are calling for electoral reform ahead of the next election.

POLICE, SOLDIERS, QUEUES, CHAOS AND DESPERATE CITIZENS ARE THE DAILY SCENERY IN ZIMBABWE. CITIZENS SPEND HOURS QUEUING TO WITHDRAW $100.00 OF THEIR HARD EARNED SAVINGS, THAT’S IF YOU’RE LUCKY TO GET SO MUCH. OTHERS ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO WITHDRAW $50.00 AND TOWARDS END OF THE DAY SOME CITIZENS WILL ONLY GET $20.00. OTHERS NOT SO LUCKY WILL ONLY GET AS LITTLE AS $10.00. SOME CITIZENS TOLD US THAT THERE WAS EVEN A WORST CASE THAT HAPPENED WHERE A LOCAL BANK HAD TO AUTHORISE ONLY $5.00 PER CUSTOMER.
