Museveni clinging on a string – Muntu
By DAVID MAFABI & JOYCE CHEMITAI, Wednesday 29 July 2015, The Monitor (Uganda)
Kween. FDC president Mugisha Muntu has branded President Museveni a ‘cowardly’ leader whose continued reign is merely being helped by a divide and rule method.
He said President Museveni is fighting internal divisions within the party, strong Opposition and legal battles that have made him so weak urging Ugandans to leave him alone.
“Let the man go alone. He should not go with the entire country. He is now clinging on a string like a drowning man who can even clutch at a serpent anytime,” said Gen Muntu.
Addressing a rally in Kween District on Monday, Gen Muntu accused the President of diverting State finances by funding military intelligence to divide churches, mosques and cultural institutions for his selfish reasons.
Commenting on Gen Muntu’s remarks, Mr Ofwono Opondo, the NRM deputy spokesperson, said he would not engage in the Muntu “ping pong” discussing who is more popular or strong.
“I am not even sure FDC has supporters in Kween. I challenge him to deliver in just one sub-county in Kajara where he comes from,” he said.
Gen Muntu who is aspiring to be the FDC party flag bearer in 2016 elections urged the Opposition leaders to mobilise the people to vote out the NRM leadership come next year.
“The struggle to oust President Museveni and the entire NRM should now attract forces of the entire population so that we collectively redefine the agenda for further transformation of this country,” said Gen Muntu.
Gen Muntu lashed out at the people of Sebei for constantly voting President Museveni since 1986 and yet they have remained poor despite having fertile soils for agriculture.
“If you voted a good government, you would be the richest in the country because you have fertile soils suitable for all crops. What government needs to do is to provide good roads which NRM has failed to for the last 30 years,” said Gen Muntu.
